private lessons

I’ve taught private music lessons for 14 years. I’ve booked students independently and through word of mouth and also worked for a number of Boston area music education companies, including:

  • Groovy Baby Music

  • The Children’s Music Center of Jamaica Plain

  • Music Together

  • Rhythm Kids

  • Jammin’ With You

I began by teaching lessons in my primary instrument, the saxophone, and gradually expanded the scope of my knowledge and skills to incorporate other instruments and disciplines as well. To date, I’ve given lessons in saxophone, clarinet, flute, guitar, ukulele, piano, percussion, and music recording, beat-making, and production.

Classes

I began teaching music classes as an instructor for Rhythm Kids, an Acton, Massachusetts-based organization that specializes in West African drumming for children and young adults. I worked in schools, community centers, libraries, churches, summer camps and more, teaching anywhere between four and a hundred kids to play the hand drums and sing African songs. It was challenging at first, but in the end it was a blast! I took that experience and used it to develop my own drumming curriculum, which I continue to teach throughout Boston.

Since 2013, I’ve worked in that capacity as the music specialist at the Little Children’s School House in Brookline, Massachusetts, teaching over 120 kids a week to play, sing, move, and groove. I’ve also taught drumming and ukulele classes at:

  • The Children’s Music Center of Jamaica Plain

  • Spontaneous Celebrations Community Center

  • The Boston Public Library

  • The Torit Montessori School

  • The Roslindale Farmer’s Market

  • Milton Music Together

  • Dedham Music Together

  • The William H. Henderson Inclusion School

  • Milton Academy

  • The Cambridge YMCA

  • Many, many more

Finally, I’ve given in-home guitar, ukulele, keyboard, and percussion classes to small groups of between 2 and 6 people. It’s a wonderful way for students to learn and play with friends and relatives, and one of my favorite ways to teach!
